The Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO) is a well-established mandate of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) with the overall vision of sustainable and inclusive economic growth and integration of SIPPO partner countries into world trade, through its mission of supporting Business Support Organizations (so called BSOs - which includes public or private asociations, chambers of commerce, export promotion agencies, among others) to increase their export promotion capacity and service provision to export-ready companies. As of 2017, SIPPO is implemented by Swisscontact, in partnership with BHP Brugger and Partners and Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation.
Through SIPPO’s network of international and national experts, the programme aims at supporting BSOs to increase their export promotion capacity and service provision to export-ready companies. The programme is a powerful tool in promoting sustainable trade in 11 countries and 6 sectors: Fish& Seafood, Processed Foods, Natural Ingredients, Technical Wood, Value-added Textiles and Sustainable Tourism.
SIPPO supports BSOs through tailor-made capacity building in two areas:
1) Improving BSO Market entry activities
through capacity building in market intelligence, trade fair participation, selling missions, buyer missions and study tours, and
2) Institutional Strengthening of Business Support Organizations (BSOs)
through Strategic planning and positioning, Project Cycle Management and Knowledge sharing and learning.
BSOs are capacitated at their own speed and ownership is placed entirely in the hands of the service provider: BSOs who want to explore and improve access to new markets and opportunities for their export-ready companies to undertake these “last mile services” activities.
SIPPO thereby enhances BSO member companies’ performances in export and thus contributes to increased income and more and better jobs.
In Peru, the sustained economic growth of the last decade has helped increase the capacities to export value-added products, so that BSOs and their companies now have the possibility to offer high-quality products to the most important international buyers in Europe and beyond. Also, Peru´s country brand and Superfoods potential have positioned Peru as one of the top exporters with more potential to grow worldwide thus contributing to exports, labour and economic development. SIPPO is supporting the Peruvian BSOs to further increase their service provision for exporting companies to succeed in the international market.

In our partner countries, we build the capacities of Business Support Organizations (BSOs), such as export promotion boards and sector-wide associations. We will support them so that they can provide high-quality services to their client companies and members in the areas of market intelligence, B2B matchmaking, and networking. In this way, we give assistance to embed export promotion within national structures of our partner countries.

SIPPO supports BSOs through capacity building in three sectors: Processed Foods, Technical wood and Sustainable Tourism
Peru has a remarkable export capacity of agro-industrial processed food. The food industry in Peru has increased steadily in the last years, positioning the country in the international markets due to the high-quality offer of Superfoods with a high nutritional contribution. BSOs are reaching new markets and buyers, meeting the international standards, with high-quality levels, safety and traceability, as well as sustainability certifications.
The legality of wood and respect for the environment is a key part of Peru´s development. The country has a high potential of tropical wood species that allows the development of added value products that cater to different needs, applications and uses of customers. This potential offers the possibility to develop strategies based on international demand considering the respect of communities and traceability of legal wood based on international trade-agreements.
The sustainable tourism sector is essential for the economic development of Peru. SIPPO is seeking to be a strategic partner of the sector in order to allow BSOs to reach out to international tour operators that look for the Peruvian cultural, environmental and social diversity. We facilitate the alignment of tourism institutions to reach high levels of performance in trade fairs and to develop strategies with a cross-sectoral approach to sustainability, focusing on creating economic growth and welfare, highlighting the tourist attractions of Peru at international level.
The National Chamber of Commerce, Production, Tourism and Services - PERUCAMARAS is a non-profit association, with national and international presence. It is the guild that brings together associations and chambers representing all sectors of economic activity. PERUCAMARAS's mission is to communicate the interests of its members, facilitate their connection to business opportunities, as well as provide specialized services and technical assistance within a concept of productive decentralization. All this oriented to boost the competitiveness of all the companies of the country, directing them towards an effective decentralization and national integration, in a globalized environment that generates an export culture.
ADEX was founded in 1973 with the purpose of representing and offering services to its associates: exporters and companies involved in services related to trade. It associates large, medium and small companies, with a total of approximately 1,000 members (out of a total of 6,000 exporters in Peru) representing 60% of the annual export value, its services have been designed to cover all aspects of foreign trade management within an exporting company.
Comisión de Promoción del Perú para la Exportación y el Turismo (PROMPERÚ), is a government agency connecting both, public and private initiatives. PROMPERÚ’s mission is to promote a competitive and diversified offer of products and services with the highest quality standards suitable for the international markets. PROMPERÚ carries out a wide range of activities related to trade and tourism promotion, focussing on those linked with the expansion of businesses in foreign markets, to generate job opportunities and to spread the image of Peru as an exporting country and an attractive tourist destination.
As part of its mandate of organizational capacity building and trade promotion, the Swiss Import Promotion Program (SIPPO) of the Swiss Cooperation - SECO organized, together with PROMPERU, a roundtable discussion on the findings and results of the institutional capacity building process on the Cocoa and Chocolate market, which took place during 2020-2021 in the framework of the Cocoa and Chocolate Fair.
The tourism sector has been one of the hardest affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, so SIPPO Peru, aware of this problem, has increased its support to our BSO in the Tourism Sector, the Agency for the Promotion of Foreign Trade and Tourism - Promperu. In order to establish the basis for the development of marketing plans at the regional level, a guide has been developed with detailed steps and examples of how to prepare a guide for each region.
In alliance with PERUCAMARAS, the Import Promotion Program - SIPPO implemented the training workshops for the Peruvian Regional and Local Chambers of Commerce providing them with general concepts and fundamentals for an adequate management of their organization including the basic concepts of the use of customer relationship management systems according to the new trends of digitalization.
On November 9, the Swiss Import Promotion Program (SIPPO), implemented by Swisscontact, held the Country 2020 Coordination Committee with its strategic partners in the processed food sector, Adex, Promperu and PeruCamaras. The Swiss Secretariat of Economic Affairs (SECO), to which the program belongs, participated actively in the meeting.
The Swiss Import Promotion Program (SIPPO) in support of the strategic allies ADEX (Association of Exporters) and PROMPERU held the closing meeting for the contents development training of the timber sector website, in which the aim was to establish institutional synergies between the public and private sectors.

PROMPERU, in alliance with the Swiss Import Promotion Program (SIPPO) in Peru, is conducting a training process for its officials in order to strengthen their market intelligence and commercial promotion capabilities in the cocoa and chocolate sector.
The Commission for the Promotion of Peruvian Exports and Tourism (PROMPERÚ) with the support of the Swiss Import Promotion Program (SIPPO) funded by the Swiss Cooperation-SECO, carried out the webinar "Profile of the Sustainable Tourist and Post COVID trend" including the results of the research on sustainable tourism trends in Germany, France and Switzerland, important international source markets for tourists with a vision of sustainable development. The webinar had more than 280 attendees.
In order to strengthen the presence of regional governments at international tourism fairs, PROMPERU and SIPPO organized a training workshop for the Regional Governments of Ancash, Loreto, Arequipa, La Libertad and Emufec of Cusco, to prepare them for participation in Anato's international fair in Colombia and ITB Berlin.
The Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO) in the effort to facilitate and transfer knowledge to the BSOs in Peru, implemented a two days’ workshop to the regional chambers members of PeruCamaras about the importance of using CRM systems and supported PeruCamaras and 10 regional chambers in learning to use the B2B Trace CRM developed by Koltiva in their commercial activities.
During 2019, SIPPO promoted synergies between ADEX and PROMPERU in the wood sector achieving important progress for the coordination and development of a strategic communications plan with support of the communications consultancy company CORPRO, with the implementation of a wood sector website.
The Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO) in coordination with PERUCAMARAS and the Regional Chamber of Piura implemented a successful training to the regional chambers of the north part of Peru, companies and organizations related to international trade.
From August to November 2019, SIPPO Peru implemented a capacity building activity with PROMPERU to develop capacities in exporters participating in ANUGA, the world’s largest trade fair for food and beverages of the entire industry.

Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO) joined the Association of Exporters (ADEX) to develop a training program on negotiation skills for processed foods SMEs that are going to participate in Expoalimentaria on September 25 to 27 in Lima. The Expoalimentaria trade show is the main international business platform in Peru, which offers 4 specialized sectors: national and international foods and beverages (including processed foods), machinery, packaging and foreign trade services, which gather the interest of the main companies of the five continents.
Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO) is working with PROMPERU in developing capacities inside the institution and companies supported in Anuga trade fair in Cologne. KOLTIVA presented B2B Trace CRM system to Peruvian BSOs PERUCAMARAS and OCEX with the support of The Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO). This web-based application is a Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Project Cycle Management (PCM), and Monitoring and Results Measurement (MRM) tool developed to meet the needs of export-oriented Business Support Organizations (BSOs).
Industria Peru is the main commercial platform in the manufacturing industry, in which international buyers and Peruvian export companies have the opportunity to generate business. The event gathered 241 Peruvian Industrial suppliers of mining, construction, cosmetics, timber, packaging, auto parts, medical and pharmaceutical equipment giving them the opportunity to meet 184 international buyers from various parts of the world.
In May 2019, Promperu published the Annual Report on AgroExports Development 2018, which highlights the excellent performance of the sector with a growth of 12% compared to 2017, due to an increase in the value of non-traditional exports, especially in the prices of the products of the line of fresh, frozen, processed and functional foods.
The Research Center of Economy and Global Business (CIEN) of ADEX with support of the Swiss Import Promotion Program (SIPPO) successfully implemented a capacity building program about international markets intelligence and dissemination of commercial information to exporters in order to increase its export possibilities.
The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur), within the framework of the National Strategic Exporter Plan PENX 2025, carried out the presentation of the progress results until 2018, showing positive figures among which are 1,250 companies that managed to venture into exports to the foreign markets thanks to the support of the Export Route System promoted by Mincetur and Promperu (Exports Promotion Board).
The Salon International de l’Alimentation (SIAL) food fair, which took place at Paris Nord Villepinte from 21 to 25 October 2018, delivered on being the food event of the year and meeting place for the entire industry with more than 7200 exhibitors from 119 countries, attracting 300.000 stakeholders to the fair. SIPPO supported country pavilions of Indonesia, Peru, South Africa, and Tunisia, who delivered a strong performance contributing to this year’s innovations.
The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Rogers Valencia, announced today that, between January and June of 2018, Peruvian agro-exports to the European Union (EU) amounted to US $ 1 093 million, registering a growth of 24% in relation to the same period of the previous year. The minister stressed that this is the highest historical semester since the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement with the EU, in March 2013.
On August 16 and 17, the Market Intelligence for Exports training workshop organized by SIPPO was held in order to benefit the Regional Chambers of Foreign Trade associated with PERUCAMARAS. The World of Coffee Amsterdam fair organized by the Specialty Coffee Association was attended by international buyers from all over the world.
The event has more than doubled in size in the last five years, growing to reach more than 6,800 visitors and 240 exhibitors in the last 5 years.
The Peru's Commercial Offices Abroad - OCEX Rotterdam and Lima Chamber of Commerce - CCL had an outstanding participation in SIAL. Based on the coordination of The Exports Promotion Board of Peru (PROMPERU) and The Swiss Import Promotion Programme - SIPPO to support the capacity building in trade fairs of Europe, the institutions participated at PLMA – Private Label Amsterdam.

Peru will be the guest of honor in the next edition of Biofach, the most important fair for organic products in the world, which will take place February 13-16, 2019 in Nuremberg, Germany.
