About SIPPO

Who we are

The Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO) is a well-established mandate of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) within the framework of its economic development cooperation.

SIPPO aims to better integrate developing and emerging countries into world trade. While export companies in SIPPO countries may have good products to offer to importers in foreign markets, they struggle finding ways to reach out to potential buyers. Likewise, there are importers in target markets looking for suppliers with great products but sourcing them abroad is a challenging and time-consuming task.

Thus, SIPPO’s focus is to support this «last mile» of the supply chain, where exporters and importers find together. Business Support Organisations (BSOs) are the point of contact to bridge this «last mile» and to facilitate market access and exports to Switzerland, the EU, and regional markets.

Thus, SIPPO exclusively supports BSOs in SIPPO countries (public or private organisations like trade promotion organisations, export promotion boards, sector associations, chambers of commerce, etc.) in improving their export promotion service portfolio towards export-ready companies in their countries.

Through competent local SIPPO teams and in collaboration with a network of international and national experts, the SIPPO programme enhances the performance of the selected BSOs in two areas:   

  1. Improving BSO’s trade promotion activities through capacity development in market research, trade fair participation, selling missions, buyer missions and study tours.
  2. Supporting BSOs in their organisational development, strategic planning and positioning, project cycle management, knowledge sharing and continuous learning.

SIPPO is active in 11 partner countries and 6 sectors: Fish& Seafood, Processed Foods, Natural Ingredients, Technical Wood, Value-added Textiles and Sustainable Tourism.

SIPPO has been implemented by Swisscontact since 2017 in partnership with BHP Brugger and Partners and Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation and is now in its Phase 2 (2021-2025).

The situation in Peru

In Peru, the country's economic growth has helped increase capacities to export products to various international markets and promote sustainable tourism. In this way, BSOs are major players in developing the skills of exporting companies and tour operators that offer their products to Europe and the world.

Additionally, the potential of the Peruvian offer, the Peru Brand and sectoral brands have positioned Peru as one of the main players in the food industry in the world, thus contributing to international trade, labour, and the sustainable economic development of the country. SIPPO is supporting Peruvian BSOs to improve their services so that companies can be successful in the international market.

LIMA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE (CCL)

LIMA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE (CCL)

The Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) is the main Chamber of Commerce in Peru, facilitating business opportunities at a national and international level, providing services to local and exporting companies to boost their competitiveness. The Foreign Trade Center of the CCL provides advice on international fairs, business roundtables, e-commerce, and digital businesses, as well as business agendas in the main worldwide markets with high levels of quality that have led it to be a benchmark in the country.

SIERRA AND SELVA EXPORTADORA (SSE)

Sierra y Selva Exportadora (SSE), promotes economic activity in the rural areas of the mountains and jungle of Peru to achieve access for small and medium-sized organized producers to markets in a sustainable and competitive manner, contributing to the reduction of poverty. For this, it develops commercial coordination plans, implements national and international commercial promotion events, and develops skills in exporters through virtual and face-to-face training.

NATIONAL CHAMBER OF TOURISM OF PERU (CANATUR)

The National Chamber of Tourism of Peru (CANATUR) aims to promote the competitiveness and sustainable development of tourism in a dynamic, proactive, and representative manner in the 25 regions of Peru. CANATUR focuses on economic and social development, promoting internal and receptive tourism, organizing national and international events, and providing information to its associates on the sustainable tourism sector. Among its associates are organizations such as APTAE and APOTUR.

SIPPO supports Business Support Organisations so that they can even better provide export promotion services to export-ready companies.

SIPPO’s support in professional market research, B2B matchmaking and networking is optimally embedded in the existing export promotion structures of the BSOs. SIPPO works with partners who are committed to the sustainable trade of goods and services, i.e. socially responsible and environmentally friendly.

Trade Promotion Academy

The TPA is a comprehensive  e-learning platform that allows the continuous acquisition and improvement of core export promotion, market access knowledge and institutional development. Global Trade Help Desk

The Global Trade Helpdesk (GTH) is a central internet platform developed by the International Trade Centre  to track changes in demand, export potential, tariffs and regulatory requirements in a timely manner. This allows BSOs to provide accurate, fact-based advice to their companies.

Knowledge Management and Networking

In our digitalised world fast and comprehensive access to regularly updated knowledge from specific information sources results in market advantages. BSOs benefit from SIPPO's large worldwide network and its knowledge transfer for organising networking events, conferences and workshops.

Strategic Planning

SIPPO supports BSO in clarifying their roles in export promotion in their sector and country by adopting a strategic and focused approach.

Project and Performance Management

SIPPO supports BSOs in the provision and evaluation of instruments and indicators for target-measurement.

Market access activities

SIPPO supports BSOs in the organisation of trade fair participation and selling and buyer missions, study tours and on-site visits. These activities take place after a joint analysis of potential target markets and possibilities of finding contacts in Switzerland and Europe.
