The Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO) is a well-established mandate of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), within the framework of its economic development cooperation. As of 2017, SIPPO is implemented by Swisscontact, a business-oriented Swiss foundation for international cooperation and development.

We work directly with Business Support Organisations (BSOs), including promotion boards and sector-wide associations, to support the expansion and quality of their export promotion services to their members and clients. Through the BSOs, export-ready companies gain access to customised export services such as market intelligence, capacity-building, networking and matchmaking.

SIPPO connects relevant export sectors from eleven partner countries with reliable importers in Switzerland, the rest of Europe and other important target markets.

In Peru, democratic stability and sustained economic growth during the last decade have also helped increase the export of non-traditional products. Its strategic geographic location in South America and its climate favours its positioning as a hub and its potential for international markets.

This setting is also considered conducive to focusing in decentralising and formalising the economy; these matters are now prioritized in the country’s current agenda.

SIPPO has a longstanding experience in promoting the export of Peruvian products to the European market, and is expecting to work hand in hand with the BSOs in order to facilitate innovative quality services, as well as to promote the effective articulation among the BSOs, aimed at boosting exports and strengthening relations in the public-private context. Based on this experience, SIPPO has vast knowledge and good networking in the export sector.

Peru has a solid industry for supplying international markets. SIPPO assists companies in the agro-industrial processed food and technical wood (second transformation process) sectors, and helps to strengthen the marketing of sustainable tourism.

Processed Foods

Peru has vast export capacity of agro-industrial processed food. The food industry in Peru has steadily increased in the last years, showing differentiation and positioning itself in the international markets due to the varied offer of Peruvian original food products of high nutritional contribution. Peru has companies ready for export, meeting the international standards, with high quality levels, safety and traceability, as well as sustainability certifications.

Technical Wood

Peru has a variety of tropical wood species (hard) that allow products that cater to different needs, applications and uses of international customers. Peru’s potential contributes to a diversified offer based on international demand, focused on the legal wood promotion in the second transformation, with traceability systems, certifications, awards and forest plantations, as well as international standards required by the market.

Sustainable Tourism

The sustainable tourism sector is essential for development in Peru. SIPPO is seeking to be a strategic partner of the sector in order to reach out to different tourist segments that look for the Peruvian cultural, environmental and social diversity. We facilitate the promotion of this tourism offer with a cross-sectoral approach of the sustainability present in various market segments, thus creating economic growth and population welfare, and highlighting the tourist attractions of Peru at international level.

Partner BSOs

SIPPO is currently identifying future partner BSOs to cooperate in the relevant export sectors. We foster sophisticated services for export-ready companies.

Together with the UN body of the International Trade Center ITC (www.intracen.org), export promotion boards and sector associations are assessed in 2017 to identify potential for improvements in their export promotion services. This involves interviews related to BSOs’ export promotion services, organisational structures, quality management and performance management, as well as export and sector strategies.

PERUCAMARAS

The National Chamber of Commerce, Production, Tourism and Services - PERUCAMARAS is a non-profit association, with national and international presence. It is the guild that brings together associations and chambers representing all sectors of economic activity. PERUCAMARAS's mission is to communicate the interests of its members, facilitate their connection to business opportunities, as well as provide specialized services and technical assistance within a concept of productive decentralization. All this oriented to boost the competitiveness of all the companies of the country, directing them towards an effective decentralization and national integration, in a globalized environment that generates an export culture.

ADEX

ADEX was founded in 1973 with the purpose of representing and offering services to its associates: exporters and companies involved in services related to trade. It associates large, medium and small companies, with a total of approximately 1,000 members (out of a total of 6,000 exporters in Peru) representing 60% of the annual export value, its services have been designed to cover all aspects of foreign trade management within an exporting company.

PROMPERU

Comisión de Promoción del Perú para la Exportación y el Turismo (PROMPERÚ), is a government agency connecting both, public and private initiatives. PROMPERÚ’s mission is to promote a competitive and diversified offer of products and services with the highest quality standards suitable for the international markets. PROMPERÚ carries out a wide range of activities related to trade and tourism promotion, focussing on those linked with the expansion of businesses in foreign markets, to generate job opportunities and to spread the image of Peru as an exporting country and an attractive tourist destination.

In collaboration with its partners, SIPPO organises appropriate events to successfully connect importers and exporters.

SIPPO contributes and transfers knowledge to the promotion organisations in the country to find commercial opportunities and increase exports.
SIPPO promotes study tours, business meetings (B2B) among the customers and suppliers considering traditional and virtual methods such as ecommerce and online meetings, participation in international trade fairs and workshops, always thinking in an efficient manner to gain impact and results in exports, and strengthening the capabilities and knowledge of the promotion organisations in Peru.
